Snowdrop Flowers and Bucket were Feb 1 and 2 prompts for my other sketching group so I thought I would combine the two. Because I'm new to being an "artist" I'm experimenting with styles and tools. I do like graphite and charcoal for sure. I'm thinking on "theme" I might try to develop is using graphite and charcoal and adding a splash of color in each.
Happy Imbolc to all who celebrate it :-) Spent today with some friends designing seed packets for planting various flowers, vegetables, you name it… although this will inevitably house more Washi tape in my case!
I'm compiling simple slapdash 5 min. drawings of people + sharing their story.

There were several (probably too many) contributors to the development of this idea.
1. Sunshine prompt from my other sketching group
2. Contour/outline art from my digital group
3. My sister always encouraging me to “do a scene”
4. The quote from my Doodle Addicts friend Dean C. Graf website
Note: This was completed part in procreate (see prior post) and sketching using graphite and some pastel pencils.
The quote:
It’s not what happens to me that matters, it’s my opinion of what happens to me that matters. (Epictetus (Greek philosopher)
The meaing:
“The quality of life we experience is determined by how we respond to life’s challenges.”
Here I bring you another new drawing challenge, instead of an inktober I will do this challenge based on horror and trauma (this challenge is also inspired by the famous goretober) for anyone who dares to draw for thirty-one days in the month of October.

This is a submission for my digital art group…completed in procreate. The challenge this week is “linear and outline art”
My understanding is that outline art/contour line drawing uses only lines to define outer edges of shapes/objects. The process of outlining provides the structure for the composition.
I will print this outline drawing and then use my graphite and/or charcoal pencils (TBD) to complete the drawing...once I finish the project I'll post again.
You’ll see a “hint” of a person on the path…that’s me.
Meet my new character Lao Wenji! ('-'*)♪ He was supposed to become an official, but he failed the state exam and became a teacher! He-he, he did it intentionally... ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) P.S: I really like the sound of music in the style of ancient China without words, a stringed instrument... What was it called? ╥﹏╥ I drew this art for just such tracks!

In one of my other art communities Glacier National Park was the prompt for today.
I found a refence photo online.
Then a guy I follow on instagram (@harryfrost) does pen and ink art in a similar style to my submission.
I used my light board to trace some of the basic shapes of the refenence photo.
NOTE: I don’t try to trace too much…typically i trace a minimal amount that helps me a bit with portion and shape. Since I’m pretty new to sketching I guess I’m ok with a bit of tracing. Any thoughts?
W. B. Yeats (1865–1939)
A lyric poem of eighty or more lines took him about three months of hard labor.
Fortunately, Yeats was not so careful about his other writing, like the literary criticism he did to earn extra money. “One has to give something of one’s self to the devil that one may live,” he said. “I give my criticism.”- From Daily Rituals: How Artists Work by Mason Currey
“Life is a long preparation for something that never happens.”
― W.B. Yeats

Thank you Elaine for your input and expertise. You are a rich source of wisdom and possibilities in connecting art to wellness. I will let you know how this develops. -Dean Graf
