When looking at any object, you see the exact thing the object is not. A banana absorbs all light frequencies except for yellow. It rejects the yellow ones so they can hit your retina and make you believe that this is in fact the color of the fruit. How marvelous and utterly mystifying is our perception? The world leaves a perfectly unique impression on our retinas and on our brains and I am driven by the need to feed this process. My reaction to sensory input from art is very emotional and straight from the gut. I am a junkie of contrast and color, of form and depth. The encaustic medium maximizes the range of sensory input with its endless possibilities that even enables a sculptural aspect and promotes the tactile awareness of the art’s surface quality. How better to spark those afferent neurons and stimulate the right hemispheres; to create experience through perception.
I specialize in encaustic, mixed media.
